Course Overview

The NEW ISO 14001:2015* (3rd edition) Environmental Management Standard (EMS) requires that internal audits are needed to ensure the system is working effectively and continuous improvements are implemented, also that the targets for the environmental policy and continual measuring of that policy are maintained.

If you have ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 systems in place, many of the requirements of ISO 14001 will already be covered, or can be easily incorporated into them, but auditors must be thoroughly familiar with the International Standard and the organizations environmental policies in order to audit effectively. This class is based on the NEW ISO 9001:2015 underlayment.

This in-depth course gives you the skills and tools necessary to become an effective auditor in your organization. Hands-on class work, exercises and case studies will prepare you to effectively audit the internal EMS. You will learn a range of internal EMS auditing skills that will help you become a strong advocate and auditor in your company’s effort to obtain maximum value from your commitment to environmental issues.

Upon training completion you will be able to:
Understand the responsibilities of an internal auditor and describe the role of an internal audit in the maintenance and improvement of the EMS.

Explain the purpose and structure of ISO 14001, and explain the principles, process and selected techniques used for the assignment and management of environmental aspects and impacts, including the significance of these for EMS auditors.

Be able to plan and prepare for an internal audit, gather objective evidence through observation, interviews and sampling of documents and records.

Write factual audit reports that help to improve the effectiveness of the management system
Suggest ways in which the effectiveness of corrective action might be verified.
